Carrier Telecom Hardware Is Where It’s At

When the average person thinks about innovation in information technology and telecom hardware they tend to think about new computer systems or shiny new smart phones, but it is seeming ever more likely that the biggest advancements in telecommunications equipment is about to be in carrier services instead. Although certain end user markets, such as retail cell phones, have certainly grown over recent years a significant sector has grown stale due to the poor economy resulting in a lack of sales.

Usage, on the other hand, is skyrocketing these days, straining existing infrastructure systems to the breaking point (and beyond). Executives from AT&T recently speculated that by 2015 they will handle as much wireless data in 45 days as they did in all of 2010. Data usage for fixed broadband connections (DSL and cable modems) has nearly doubled in the last six months alone! As a result many manufacturers will be focusing on providing carrier equipment and services in order to meet this dramatically increasing demand for bandwidth and wireless spectrum, presenting what may be a prime opportunity to invest before a growth spurt. Alcatel-Lucent, for example, is reporting huge growth in demand for their telecom hardware.

Telecommunications are about to undergo an exciting growth into a whole new plane of existence. The original networks and carrier systems will no longer suffice to meet the demands of cloud computing and streaming video, and as such both public and private entities are rushing to lay more cable and update an ancient information highway to match new demands. Now is a very good time for carrier hardware providers.
